Senior Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Copilot Services Architecture

About the Role

We are seeking an
architect-level Senior Technical SME
to lead the design and architecture of enterprise-wide Copilot services. This role plays a critical part in shaping the technical foundation of AI-powered assistant solutions across the organisation. Although the hiring company is based in the UK, candidates may work remotely from South Africa, provided they can operate within
UK office hours
for the duration of the 12-month contract.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and own the
  end-to-end design
  of M365 Copilot and all connected services, ensuring scalability, performance, and alignment with enterprise standards.
• Translate business requirements into robust technical solutions, covering data flows, integration points, and orchestration approaches.
• Recommend and evaluate
  tools, platforms, and frameworks
  to enhance the Copilot ecosystem.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, data scientists, and security teams to maintain architectural integrity and compliance.
• Develop comprehensive
  architecture documentation
  , reference models, design patterns, and implementation guidance.
• Keep ahead of emerging M365 Copilot features, AI/LLM advancements, and intelligent assistant trends, driving continuous innovation.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in
  Computer Science, Engineering
  , or related technical field.
• 8+ years
  in software architecture, with
  3+ years
  in AI/ML or intelligent assistant platforms.
• Strong expertise in
  cloud-native architecture
  (Azure preferred).
• Deep understanding of
  LLMs, prompt engineering, vector databases, orchestration frameworks
  .
• Strong grounding in
  enterprise integration patterns, APIs
  , and security best practices.
• Hands-on experience with
  Microsoft Copilot, Azure OpenAI
  , or related AI assistant technologies.
• Knowledge of
  M365 integration
  , Graph API, and enterprise data governance.
• Relevant certifications such as
  Azure Solutions Architect Expert
  are highly advantageous.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
