Job Summary

Toptal is an innovative organization disrupting the global professional services and talent market. As General Manager, AI, you will drive growth by owning a new, high‑impact business line from inception to profitability. You will build market positioning, establish product‑market fit, and scale operations while collaborating cross‑functionally with Marketing, Legal, Finance, and Sales. This remote position requires submission of resume and communication in English.

Responsibilities

The following information describes the general nature and level of work. It is not exhaustive.

  • Act as the single accountable owner of the AI business P&L.
  • Work closely with Executive and Senior Leadership to align the business with Toptal’s growth goals and brand.
  • Analyze market and industry opportunities and identify high‑potential segments.
  • Build and test new offerings with clients, using feedback to quickly achieve product‑market fit.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (Marketing, Legal, Finance, Sales) to refine strategy.
  • Establish robust analytics and feedback loops to continuously iterate and improve the strategy.
  • In the first week:
    • Onboard and integrate into Toptal.
    • Learn Toptal’s business model, value proposition, and story.
    • Shadow critical teams throughout the organization.
  • In the first month:
    • Understand the go‑to‑market model across SMB and Enterprise.
    • Conduct market research, identify opportunities, and formulate hypotheses.
    • Partner with Marketing to validate market opportunity and demand.
    • Build initial GTM strategy and iterate based on client feedback.
  • In the first three months:
    • Partner with Senior Leadership, New Businesses, Marketing, and Talent Operations.
    • Execute GTM strategy with support from Legal, Finance, and others.
  • In the first six months:
    • Assess AI division progress against key milestones, refine roadmaps, and align with business objectives.
    • Scale AI solutions across client organizations to improve operational efficiency and customer outcomes.
  • In the first year:
    • Broaden Toptal’s reach into key industries and subsectors through AI tools and products.
    • Scale the infrastructure required for execution, optimizing processes and systems.
    • Achieve product‑market fit and realize core business growth.

Qualifications and Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in Engineering, Business, or related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience driving and managing a business with strong understanding of operations and management principles.
  • 3+ years of P&L ownership.
  • Experience in a professional services organization driving business growth.
  • Demonstrated success or entrepreneurial experience launching a new business or product from scratch.
  • Strong preference for experience at a technology or hyper‑growth company.
  • Management consulting or investment banking experience preferred but not required.
  • Leadership experience delivering results in a fast‑paced, multi‑function environment.
  • Exceptional relationship development and leadership skills with credible cross‑level engagement.
  • Experience with marketing technology, automation, CRMs, and related platforms.
  • Track record establishing high‑impact, revenue‑generating commercial relationships.
  • Strong analytical and strategic decision‑making skills.
  • Commercial acumen with understanding of market needs and business goals.
  • Proficiency over P&L and financial metrics.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; adept at collaborating with senior executives to individual contributors.
  • Excellent organization skills, detail‑oriented, and able to mentor others.
