The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive aviation business development in Japan by identifying and pursuing strategic opportunities

  • Lead the development and conversion of a robust pipeline of aviation pursuits into secured projects, contributing to Arup’s regional growth targets.

  • Establish and nurture relationships with key Japanese stakeholders, including airport authorities, government agencies, and local consultants.

  • Represent Arup at major aviation and infrastructure events in Japan, enhancing the firm’s visibility and credibility in the market.

  • Translate Arup’s global aviation expertise into locally relevant solutions tailored to Japan’s regulatory, cultural, and technical expectations.

  • Develop and execute a Japan-focused aviation growth strategy, aligned with Arup’s Integrated Business Plan (IBP) and regional priorities.

  • Build a local aviation team in Japan, fostering talent development and sustainable capability growth.

  • Facilitate collaboration between Japanese stakeholders and Arup’s global aviation teams, acting as a bilingual cultural bridge to ensure alignment and mutual understanding.

  • Initiate and strengthen partnerships with leading Japanese aviation consultants

  • Support joint delivery efforts and enhance Arup’s credibility and competitiveness in the Japanese market.

    Is this role right for you?

    Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Planning, Architecture, or a related field.

  • Fluent in Japanese and English, with strong cross-cultural communication and negotiation skills.

  • Deep understanding of Japan’s aviation market, infrastructure trends, and stakeholder landscape.

  • Proven ability to lead market planning, including client targeting, pursuit strategies, and budget management.

  • Strong track record of building and maintaining client relationships, especially with government and industry stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing marketing and communication plans to strengthen brand presence.

  • Skilled in coordinating multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions across geographies.

  • Ability to identify and respond to market opportunities early, embedding strategic thinking into work-winning processes.

  • Experience in resource planning, including recruitment and training to support project delivery and team development.

  • Capable of driving client satisfaction and repeat business through high-quality delivery and responsive feedback mechanisms.
