Principal Designer (Drawing Office Manager)

Principal Designer (Drawing Office Manager) – Join to apply for the role at Lycopodium. Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development of man‑hour budgets and design schedules for Study/EPCM estimates.
  • Facilitate design reviews through the development stages of the project design.
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of fabrication and construction techniques in the materials handling industry.
  • Review and interpret vendor‑certified drawings and design data.
  • Manage subordinates’ review of vendor‑certified documentation and disseminate vendor information to discipline engineers/drafting resources for interface checking.
  • Manage and oversee multi‑discipline design and drafting resources assigned to allocated tasks to achieve agreed deliverable dates and man‑hour budgets.
  • Resolve disputes in their given discipline.
  • Follow and implement all relevant company standards and procedures, ensuring design drawings comply with all relevant Australian and International standards.
  • Compile project reporting requirements in accordance with company and client standards to a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
  • Proactively support other team members to ensure project deliverables are met.
  • Register and file all relevant project documentation in accordance with company approved procedures.
  • Contribute to engineers’ professional development by mentoring and identifying avenues of development.
  • Monitor the progress and performance of the project design team, providing feedback and support where necessary.
  • Develop and contribute to improvement initiatives that support business priorities for continuous improvement.
  • Suggest methods to improve operational efficiency.
  • Ensure a high level of communication within the Engineering‑Design team.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and direction to the Engineering‑Design team as required.
  • Travel on an ad‑hoc basis to suit the needs of the business and its operations.

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma with a focus on Design and Drafting.
  • 15+ years’ experience in a similar role with relevant industry experience.
