Site Manager - Wind Farm Special Projects

Smith Crane & Construction is seeking an experienced Site Manager to lead daily operations on major wind farm construction projects. You’ll be responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective management of site teams, subcontractors, and equipment, ensuring all work is delivered to the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to deliver project outcomes on time and within budget.
  • Oversee daily construction activities, including civil, mechanical, and electrical works.
  • Supervise crane operations, heavy haulage, and turbine erection (Vestas V136–V162, SGRE DD).
  • Ensure strict compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Conduct toolbox meetings, site reporting, and progress reviews.
  • Maintain positive relationships with landowners, clients, and regulatory authorities.
  • Prepare and submit site reports, maintain accurate records, and support project claims and variations.
  • Promote a safety-first culture and ensure all team members are trained and compliant.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience (two years' minimum) as a Site Manager or Supervisor in wind turbine installation.
  • GWO Training BST and BTT (or willingness to obtain).
  • Experience with Vestas V136–V162 and SGRE DD wind turbines.
  • Physically fit and able to climb ladders up to 30 metres.
  • Full New Zealand Driver’s Licence (or equivalent).
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commercially astute with an understanding of wind farm construction scheduling and delay claims.
  • Willingness to train and mentor apprentices and junior staff.

What We Offer

Minimum guaranteed: 40 hours per week

Pay rate: $50-$65 per hour

Overtime rates

Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Hawkes Bay, Taranaki, Manawatu-Whanganui, Wellington, Tasman, Nelson, Marlborough, West Coast, Canterbury, Otago and Southland.

5 year fixed term contract

Please note successful candidates will be subject to pre-employment drug and alcohol testing and a pre-employment medical.
